Ben, John, Cece, Annie & I had a smooth trip here yesterday to New Orleans. Our first sign of what was to come were very big groups of Lutheran youth from NY & NJ at LaGuardia. We walked for several hours last night around the city and after registering for the Gathering today...soaked in the sights and music, sampled the food (including beignets from Cafe Du Monde!), and have been meeting friendly Lutheran youth from across the country. We have received a warm welcome from folks who live here, and have tried to do the same with warm hellos and sharing our food. We are amazed by all of it and so excited for the opening ceremony at the Superdome tonight, eager to learn and serve. We are very blessed to be here and can already tell this experience is going to be quite special.

We're headed to Detroit in July for the ELCA National Youth Gathering, where we will join with 35,000 other young people and adults for a week filled with worship, friends and reaching out to the people of Detroit through a variety of activities based on the theme, "Rise UP Together", 65 youth and adults from the Genesee Finger Lakes region will be heading to Detroit July 14-19; most of us traveling together on a chartered bus.
